Challenges in Student Transportation and School Openings

The Turkish Cypriot Teachers Union (KTÖS) reported significant issues during the commencement of the primary education academic year. General Secretary Burak Maviş stated that some schools were unable to start classes due to the lack of student transportation services.
Maviş emphasized that the challenges were not limited to just one school, but rather affected numerous educational institutions across the country. The inability to provide transportation has complicated students' access to schools, exacerbating disruptions in education.
He also highlighted serious deficiencies in the physical infrastructure of schools, noting that incomplete renovations and an increasing need for teachers are pressing concerns. Many schools are unable to fully operate due to insufficient teaching staff.
The ongoing issue of container classrooms is making it difficult for some schools to provide adequate education. Students' ability to learn in a suitable environment is at risk under these circumstances.
KTÖS stressed the urgent need for measures to address these problems. The Ministry of Education was urged to take necessary steps for student transportation and allocate more resources to meet the needs of schools.
Maviş warned that these negative conditions in education could adversely affect students' academic success, calling for increased awareness and sensitivity from all stakeholders in the educational community.
