Warnings Issued for Heavy Rain Across Northern Cyprus

In Northern Cyprus, the Disaster Center (AFMER), established through collaboration between the Middle East Technical University Northern Cyprus Campus and the Chamber of Civil Engineers, has alerted citizens about the impending heavy rainfall.

AFMER's announcement, thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain are expected across the country this evening and tomorrow. It was emphasized that rainfall amounts may vary by region, with some areas forecasted to receive between 21 to 50 liters of rain per square meter.

Such weather conditions could potentially lead to flooding, and citizens are advised to exercise caution. AFMER specifically recommended being vigilant against water accumulation and flowing water.

The climate of Cyprus is characterized by hot and dry summers, and rainy and cool winters. Consequently, sudden rainfall during the winter months can adversely affect the ground and infrastructure.

During the rain, drivers are reminded to be cautious on the roads, to avoid traveling if possible, and to be prepared for emergencies. Additionally, AFMER stressed the importance of local authorities and relevant institutions reviewing their preparations for potential flooding.
