Church of Saint Mamas

Northern Cyprus is home to many Orthodox shrines, and one of the most revered among them is the Church of Saint Mamas, located in the town of Güzelyurt. Not only Cypriots, but also pilgrims from other countries strive to visit this sacred place to seek the saint’s help. The relics of Saint Mamas are kept in a sarcophagus embedded in the church wall. From the openings of the sarcophagus seeps a balm, which believers consider to have healing powers.
