The Shipwreck Museum, inside Kyrenia Castle, houses the most precious treasure of Cyprus's maritime history. The wreck on display is a Greek merchant ship from the 4th century BCE; found off the coast of Kyrenia, it is considered one of the oldest surviving remains of a trading ship in the world.
The preserved sections of the ship's wooden hull are displayed in a controlled environment together with its cargo, such as amphorae and millstones. Included with the castle ticket, the museum is also ideal as a cool break in the summer heat; if a guided talk is available, it is worth listening.
